PWAN Success Story: Restoring Hope for a Child’s Future

On 10 September 2025, Dina Al-Mustapha, a divorced single mother in Katsina State, approached the office seeking assistance regarding her former husband, Uche Ishaya. Since their separation, she explained, Uche had not been contributing to the welfare of their child, leaving her solely responsible for school fees and daily upkeep. With limited means and growing concern for her child’s needs, Dina turned to the PWAN

Police Duty Solicitor Scheme (PDSS) for support.

When both parties were engaged, PWAN lawyers facilitated a discussion that allowed each side to present their account of the situation. Through this process, Uche acknowledged his responsibility and admitted that he had not been fulfilling his obligations toward the child.

With the guidance of the PDSS lawyers, the matter was resolved through mediation rather than formal court proceedings. Uche immediately sent money to cover the child’s school fees and upkeep and committed to consistently supporting his child moving forward. For Dina, the intervention provided a timely and practical resolution, ensuring that her child’s welfare was addressed without the emotional and financial strain of prolonged litigation.
