WASTE FOR JUSTICE

There have been several calls for decongestion of the Correctional Centers in Nigeria as result of overcrowding and a large number of awaiting trial inmates.
While some inmates are alleged to have committed serious offences, others are tried for misdemeanors and sentenced to fines in lieu of imprisonment. However due to economic hardships and other social challenges, they are unable to pay these fines resulting to longer stay in detention after conviction. 
In promotion of the ACJA and the Nigeria Correctional Services Act on reformation and rehabilitation of offenders, PWAN in collaboration with Chanja Datti designed the Waste for Justice Initiative (W4J). 
W4J is an innovative way of assisting indigent persons with legal fees raised from donated waste which we collect, sort, recycle and convert to cash.
