An assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on members of the Security Sector Institutions (SSIS)

INTRODUCTION

On December 8, 2019, pneumonia cases of unknown origin were identified in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province in China. The pathogen has since been identified as a novel
enveloped Ribo Nucleic Acid (RNA) beta coronavirus that has currently been named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2).

This novel coronavirus (nCoV) was identified by Chinese authorities on 7th January 2020 and was temporarily named “2019-nCoV”. Corona viruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. The nCoV is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans…
