The Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative (Partners West Africa – Nigeria, PWAN) raises an urgent alarm over the deepening crisis in Benue State. What was once known as Nigeria’s “Food Basket” is now a region engulfed in fear, violence, and humanitarian despair. Armed attacks on communities have become increasingly brutal and frequent, resulting in the loss of lives, destruction of property, and the displacement of thousands—especially women, children, and the elderly. These tragedies are unfolding amidst a lack of coordinated national response and an apparent breakdown in Nigeria’s security, judicial, and political systems.
PWAN is calling on the Federal Government, the Benue State Government, security institutions, and the National Assembly to take decisive, human-centered action to restore safety, uphold justice, and prevent further collapse of social and economic structures in the state. Urgent steps must be taken to deploy security, provide humanitarian aid, and bring perpetrators to justice through independent investigation and prosecution.
We cannot afford to look away. The people of Benue deserve protection, justice, and peace.
